L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise Nutri-Gloss Luminizer Review #hairexpertise #luminizerworks

About a month ago I was sent a “L’oreal Paris #hairexpertise VoxBox from Influenster to try out for free and give my opinion on. I was lucky enough to get selected for the Nutri-Gloss Luminizer line, which is the one I wanted because my hair is pretty dull.

In the box was the shampoo, conditioner, and the High Shine Glossing Mist.

The shampoo worked good. My hair felt nice and clean after using it. The conditioner rinsed clean and left my hair feeling soft and shinier. Both the shampoo and conditioner smelled very nice.

My favourite out of all of the products was the glossing mist. When first applied, it left my hair looking somewhat greasy and then it quickly absorbed and left my hair looking nice and shiny.

Since using the products though, I have started breaking out around the back of my neck. When I stopped using the products, the breakouts started to go away. I’m going to start adding the products back in one at a time to see if it is just one or all of the them that has been causing it.  I am hoping it isn’t the glossing mist, since I really like that one and think it works great.

Have you tried any of these products? How about any of the other #hairexpertise lines? If so, let me know! I’d love to hear how they worked for you.

A Review of 100 Naturals 10,000mcg Biotin

As someone who has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), I struggle with mild hair loss and thinning. It has started becoming worse and worse as time goes on.

I’ve tried a few different products over the last few years, too much to list.  Some include Minoxidil, Nioxin, and a slew of other products. Most of the products had mediocre results and/or lots of side effects.

I had taken biotin in the past and it had worked to some degree, but I never had the results that I seen other people talk about, so I stopped taking it.

About a month ago, I was invited on Tomoson by 100 Naturals to try their Advanced Formula Biotin with 10,000mcg for free in exchange for my honest review. I thought it was a great opportunity to give biotin another try since the dose I had taken in the past was really low compared to this at only 1000mcg.

DSC_0088b

What I love about the Advanced Formula Biotin was that a bottle has 90 veggie capsules, which is a three month supply. The pills also contain no chemicals, preservatives or artificial ingredients.  It is 100% pure.

A few days into taking it, I had a few breakouts on my face. I did a Google search and it seemed to be quite common with biotin and people had recommended to drink more water, which I did and the breakouts quickly went away.

About a week into taking it, I noticed that my hair was growing already. I had just coloured my hair the day before I started taking it, I and I was already seeing my roots show. I was pretty excited as I didn’t expect it to start working this fast, if at all.

So now at nearly four weeks into taking it, some of the changes I have experienced are:

  • Continued hair growth – I’ve been seeing a major increase in length and I have some new hairs growing around my hairline. Actually hair has been growing more quickly and abundantly EVERYWHERE on my body. Considered yourself warned, lol.
  • Less shedding – What a difference! I used to notice an alarming amount of hair shedding when in the shower and I couldn’t run my hands through my hair without it resulting in a handful of hair. I was actually quite scared of the amount I had been losing in the last year or so. Now when I shower or run my hands through my hair, there are just a few strands.
  • Stronger nails – I have pretty weak nails that bend quite easily, but they are growing a lot faster and are a little thicker.
  • Shinier hair – My hair seems to be a lot shinier since taking it. Not sure if that is just my imagination or if it is from the biotin.

The only issue I have with taking it, as mentioned earlier, is the immediate breakouts if I don’t stay on top of my water intake. I’ve been having to drink about a gallon a day to keep the biotin related breakouts away.

I am quite pleased with the Advanced Formula Biotin from 100 Naturals.  I would recommend it to everyone who has issues with hair loss or thinning, weak nails, or even just for faster hair and nail growth. 100 Naturals has a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee so if you aren’t totally satisfied with the product for any reason, they will refund you.

Infernal Innovations #1 Magnetic Phone Mount Review

001

I was invited by Infernal Innovations to test and review their Magnetic Phone Mount at a heavily discounted price. Since I had been in the market for a phone mount, I jumped at the chance to try it out.

Both my husband and I are big techies. We love to take our phones everywhere with us. They are our connection to the world when we are on the go.  We use it for communication, photos, and GPS.

We have purchased car mounts it the past, but the quality just wasn’t there. They would often fall, move around too much, or have a limited range of motion. They were just not useful.

The Infernal Innovations Magnetic Phone Mount came with a bonus adhesive disc, which I love because it allows me to put it whereever I want. My hubby didn’t think it would stick to our car’s dash because of the texture of the surface. He expected to have to use the adhesive disc, but he was pleasantly surprised to see that it attached strongly to the dash without it.

The mount itself is built extremely well and is really durable. It has a 360 degree rotation, so I am able to move it to any angle I want. It also offers side to side swivel which none of my other mounts have had. This is great, since I don’t have to take my phone off to move it to one side. The suction cup is unbelievable. It sticks to nearly everything and it does it extremely well. Once you suction it on to something, it isn’t budging!

One of my main concerns about the product was the magnet and if it would be strong enough to hold my phone and if my phone may drop if there was any sudden breaking motions, etc. It has a really strong connection, even through my thick phone cases.

Right now I have it on my desk. I love keeping my phone mounted next to my monitor so I can see any texts or notifications as they come in. The suction cup does a great job at suctioning to my desk.

As you can see, I am really liking this mount. I can see why it is the #1 Rated Magnetic Phone and featured on CNET!

If you would like to purchase this mount, or want to know more about it, you can check it out here at Amazon: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00QXYUTOE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

If you decide to purchase, you get a risk-free 5 year warranty for customers and a better than money-back 60 day guarantee. How awesome is that!?

Life & Food’s Pure Garcinia Cambogia Premium Extract with 80% HCA Review

Garcinia Cambogia has been a pretty popular supplement since a certain doctor praised it on his television show as being a miracle weight loss pill. You see it EVERYWHERE! Online stores, web banners, popups, YouTube etc. Despite it being so popular, does it really work?

First, let’s talk about what Garcinia Cambogia is. It is a tropical fruit which also goes by the name Malabar tamarind. The rind of the fruit contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA) which studies show helps burn fat and decrease appetite.

I admit, I was once sucked into the hype and purchased a few bottles on Amazon.com. They were really cheap, and I couldn’t wait to try them.  Sad to say, after taking a 3-month supply of them, I had been disappointed. I did not have any loss of appetite or weight…just loss of money.

So as a result of my failed experience with using Garcinia Cambogia, I of course blew it off as being a scam.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I was invited by the company Life & Food to apply to review their Garcinia Cambogia Premium Extract 1400mg with 80% HCA for free and provide my honest opinion. Due to my past experience with taking Garcinia Cambogia, I was skeptical but since I needed to lose a few pounds, I decided to give it a try.  The company claims that their product is safe and effective and has no artificial ingredients, soy, wheat, shellfish, peanuts or dairy.

DSC_0041

I followed the direction on the bottle and was taking it a half an hour before my lunch and dinner every day. I noticed a major change in my appetite from day 1.  I am the type of person that thinks about my next meal while eating my current one. I am obsessed with food. Several times I had found myself looking at the clock and realizing that it was past meal time. I would normally be checking every few minutes to see if it was time to eat yet.

After a few days, I stepped on the scale and was down about a half of a pound. Nothing major, but since I have less than 15 pounds to lose, the weight doesn’t come off in large amounts. I was pretty excited.

About a week after taking it, I had come down with a cold that rendered me useless for about a week. My workouts were pretty short and low impact, and I ate a few more comfort foods. I really expected to gain weight, but I was surprised to see that I maintained the weight I was at.

So now, after taking it a few weeks, I feel like my clothes are fitting better. I have less desire to eat every waking minute like I had in the past. I am still at the half a pound weight loss, but I am happy with that. I started a new strength training routine and started taking creatine which causes water retention, so I do think that I have lost weight and fat off my body despite the lack of change on the scale.

What I learned was that Garcinia Cambogia can indeed work if you purchase it from a reputable company. Avoid buying cheap bottles from Amazon, deal websites, eBay, etc because you never know what may be in them or if they work. You’re just wasting your money. I would highly recommend Life & Food’s Garcinia Cambogia. It is available for purchase on Amazon.ca here.

SOAP.club Review

I love bar soaps. I prefer using them over liquid soaps and body washes any day. I just find they make me feel cleaner in comparison. The problem with most bar soaps is that many leave a residue behind or leave my skin feeling stripped.

I was pretty excited to be offered the chance to try a bar of soap from SOAP.club. I had the option of picking Sandalwood or Dead Sea Mud, and I chose to go with the Dead Sea Mud bar as I figured this would be the most beneficial for my skin during this time of year when my skin has been oily and I’ve been having breakouts.

DSC_0570

DSC_0577

Here is what the company says for the Dead Sea Mud bar:

“Dead Sea Mud – Purify your skin with powerful Dead Sea Mud minerals, renowned for their regenerative, healing properties. Relax as the soap washes away impurities and balances skin oils to give you a more radiant complexion, naturally.”

The bar, which is square, came in this cute little box. I just love the fun colours on it and the little window in it so you can see the bar peeking through. I really appreciate that the company lists the ingredients on the back of the packing. Notice that everything can be pronounced? All natural, organic ingredients. It’s soap that I can feel good about using on my skin, especially on delicate areas like my face.

DSC_0571

To me, the soap smells similar to that of the liquid soap that you find in dispensers in public bathrooms. I actually like it, it smells fresh and clean.

The soap lathers up very nicely, which I like. It is a creamy leather. I prefer using a soap that lathers a lot as I feel it makes it easier to gauge how well it cleans when I use it.

DSC_0580

After using the soap, my skin was left feeling clean. Not dry or tight, but comfortably clean. The breakouts I had been experiencing on my back and on my face have been clearing up, which I find pretty amazing. I’ve been using harsher soaps and creams in the last few weeks to help clear it up with no change at all, so I am pleased that this has been helping.

I only had one issue with the soap and that is that it is messy! It leaves black suds everywhere and temporarily stains my face cloth. It does come off easily though and is not fault of the company, it is just the type of soap it is.

I would highly recommend this soap from the SOAP.club and I look forward to trying more in the future. The prices are a little higher than I had ever paid for a bar of soap, but the bar very solid and after using it everyday on my body and face, it has barely changed in size. I suspect that a bar would last a very long time.  That and the fact that the soap is all natural, organic, handcrafted AND free of harsh chemicals, preservatives, artificial color or detergent makes it worth the price.

They have over 70 different soaps available on their website. You can choose to buy the soaps you want in their soap store or you can sign up for one of their specialized monthly soap plans which offers free shipping. I love how they list the skin care benefits for the ingredients in each soap.

You can find out more about the company and their soaps on their website.

Testing Vichy Idéalia Skin Sleep and Life Serum #IdealiaSkinSleep

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be chosen to try the Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep and Idealia Life Serum from ChickAdvisor. 2015-06-01 16.20.17 I’ve had to chance to try both out now for a few weeks. I use the Life Serum twice a day, and the Skin Sleep at night. The Life Serum is nice and light weight. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated on its own without the need of adding an extra moisturizer in the day. I usually do top it with a SPF lotion though if I am going out. It has a shimmer to it which makes my skin look luminous. 2015-06-20 12.45.24 The Skin Sleep is similar to other night creams, except that it is more like a gel. It is really moisturizing and would be perfect for those who have parched skin. It is a little too rich for me for this time of year, especially when paired with the Life Serum, but I think it will be perfect in the dryer months of the fall and winter. I have to note that this is the first night cream that I am able to use without my skin breaking out. Similar creams cause me to have cystic acne, but I have not had any issue at all with the Skin Sleep. 2015-06-20 12.46.17 If you are familiar with Vichy products, you know that their products are scented. These are no different. I find the scent of the Skin Sleep to be a little stronger and doesn’t fade like the other products I have tried. This is something to keep in mind if you are someone who is bothered by scents. All in all, I think both are great products. I will definately be purchasing the Life Serum in the future. I love how it makes my skin look and feel. I’m still on the fence about the Skin Sleep, though. I think it would be perfect for those who have really dry skin. I can’t wait to see how it works in the winter. Have you tried either of these products? What are your thoughts?

A Review of the new Keurig 2.0 #Keurig2point0

#Keurig2point0…is it worth it?

When I learned that I was getting a Keurig VoxBox, I was pretty stoked. I had thought it would be a VoxBox that had K-Cups in it to try out in my older Keurig machine.  As it turned out, what was in the Keurig VoxBox was actually a Keurig 2.0 K300 to try out. I was floored!! It had been one of the items on my wishlist.
I’ve had my older Keurig for around two years now and I have used it daily ever since I bought it. I love the convenience of brewing one cup at a time.  I’ve even purchased several more to give as gifts to family members.
The newer Keurig 2.0 (left) and the Keurig Special Edition (right)
Upon learning about the Keurig 2.0, it immediately went on my wishlist. That is, until I learned that I could not brew my favourite brand of coffee in the newer models. You see, the Keurig 2.0 models will only let you brew K-Cups that have the Keurig 2.0 Brewing TechnologyTM. These K-Cups have the white ring around the top and say “Keurig Brewed”.
A Keurig Approved K-Cup
I really have no issue with the fact that only approved brands can be brewed in the brewer as there are many available to pick from. My issue was having to go through all available to find one that would replace my old favourite (especially in a small time like mine where selection is few) and the fact that I would have to pay a significant amount more to buy the Keurig approved coffees.
The Keurig 2.0 K300 does not have a time display or programmable features, which I will miss when going from my Keurig Special Edition to the Keurig 2.0. It is available in higher up models though. Another thing that is not really big deal, but would be nice to have.
Okay, so those are some of the issues I had with this. I wanted to get through the cons first so I could focus on the features that I really like.  My first being the carafe.
All of the Keurig 2.0 models come with a carafe that you can use to brew multiple cups at a time. You will need special K-Carafe packs, which look like this:
A Keurig Carafe Pack
This is so convenient! When I have had people over in the past, we have all stood in line waiting around for our cups to brew or I’ve had to dig out my old coffee maker.  Now that I can make multiple cups at once, that old thing is going bye-bye!
The next feature that I have been loving is the Strong setting. I can choose to make my coffee stronger. This is perfect for me since I love a bold (or what my hubby calls “strong enough to walk” LOL) cup of coffee, especially in the morning.
It also has a feature for brewing Hot Cocoa and other specialty beverages which require a different brewing method to ensure you get a perfect cup.
All in all, I am pleased with the Keurig 2.0. and I think it is has earned its place on my counter…and it looks great while being there, too! The Keurig 2.0 is something that I do recommend, but my suggestion would be to spend a little extra to buy higher models that have more options available like high water capacity, time display, and programming features. Lancôme #Grandiose Mascara Review

About a week ago, I was sent Lancome’s new Grandiose Mascara compliments of Influenster to test out.  I decided to review it on camera this time…eek! My first time on video:

The packaging for this mascara is gorgeous and just speaks luxury. Feels nice to hold and is easy to open.

The new swan neck wand that claims to makes application easier and helps to coat every lash. I did find it coated everyday, but I am still learning to get used to applying with this wand.  It gets easier each time I use it.

As you can seen, it did a great job at giving me length and volume. There was some clumping, otherwise it looks very natural. I’m just not used to using a formula of that consistency. I prefer a dryer mascara that doesn’t clump.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Just because it isn’t my preferred type of mascara doesn’t mean I don’t like it. I think it looks great and from other pictures I’ve seen online, some people can really rock this.

Would I buy it? Honestly, no. It is a bit too pricy for me ($35, Sephora).  I often do splurge on beauty products, but I just don’t love this enough to buy it.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

I’m Impressed Yet Again! Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-on Manicure #imPressManicure

I recently received another VoxBox from Influenster.  This box was specifically for the imPress Press-On Manicure from Broadway Nails.  As you may recall, I had received these in my #MapleVoxBox back in December 2013.  I did a review on them here.

This imPress Manicure Canada VoxBox contained two packages of the Press-On Manicure, complimentary for me to tryout.  The names of them are Holla! and Working Girl, as seen here:

One, which has a fancy fishnet stocking type design called “Holla!” that I am wearing here:

The other is named “Working Girl” and has a black background with a sparkly silver crackle top, seen below:
Beautiful! This one I am saving to wear to an upcoming family function.

I really love how these manicures are so easy to apply.  I have yet to have a problem finding a nail to match each of my fingers.  I have great looking nails in just a few minutes.  The only downfall is that I have really short nail-beds so the nails are pretty long on me, which I am not used to.  I’d love to see Broadway Nails come up with a set or two for those of us with this problem.  (Even the short length ones are a little too long for me)

Some tips/recommendations I have are:
  • Pick your sizes and nails and lay them out before applying. You want to make sure you have the best fitting nails ready.
  • Save your thumbs for last, especially if you aren’t used to wearing longer nails.  It makes it so much easier to apply with them off.
  • Look at the remaining nails to see if you can come up with another set to wear.  I kept the leftover nails and will be able to get 2 uses out of the package.
  • If you are concerned about potentially “breaking” a nail while out, take carry the package with you so you can easily swap out a nail for the next closest size.

I highly recommend the Broadway imPress Press-On Manicures. Give them a try.  They are available in many different patterns and colours. They can be found at many retailers, such as Walmart.
What are your thoughts? Have you used artificial nails before? Would you? Have you tried any of the Broadway imPress Press-On Manicures or other Broadway products?  Lemme know!

Mystery Revealed! The #MysteryBrand was Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser!

I knew it!

After about a week and a half of testing the L’Oreal #MysteryBrand for Influenster, testers were sent another package revealing what the brand is.  If you read my previous post here about about the #MysteryBrand, you would have seen that my guess was the new Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser line, and I was right!

The box contained four Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser products, three of which I had already tried from the mystery box:

The Damage Eraser Shampoo

Smells great, makes my hair feel nice and clean and it doesn’t feel stripped or dried out afterwards.

The Damage Eraser Conditioner

Conditioned my hair really well without making it feel heavy.  Also smells great.

The Damage Eraser Strength Reconstructing Butter

A thick, creamy hair mask that left my hair feeling really conditioned and soft.  It didn’t leave my hair feeling heavy like a lot of other hair masks or butters.  Has the same great fragrance as the rest of the line.

and my favourite out of the whole line….

The Damage Eraser Split Ends Bandage

I just love this stuff! It leaves my hair feeling so soft and shiny. My hair is normally frizzy, dry, coarse, and lifeless. When I use this it makes my hair feel so much different. I even told friends that when I touch my hair it feels like I am wearing a wig! It doesn’t even feel like my own hair! I highly recommend this!

Overall, I am very satisfied with all of the products. They have made such a difference to my hair.  There is one downside to them though, and that is that they make me breakout around my hairline and on my neck. Hopefully this is only temporary because I really want to keep purchasing this line.

Have you tried any of the Damage Eraser line? If so, what did you think?  If you haven’t, what one do you think you’d most like to try?
